Sovereign AI for critical physical systems.

Drones 4 Defence is a four-year Danish research and development project building a fully Danish-produced drone platform for defence, police and emergency services. The goal is to strengthen national innovation and reduce dependency on foreign technology in some of the most critical systems a society operates.

Ambolt AI participates together with Aalborg University and Danish technology companies Sky-Watch, DroneVolt and UXV. Innovation Fund Denmark has invested DKK 30 million in the development.

What we build

The project spans the technologies that make autonomous physical systems trustworthy in critical use:

• AI-based situational awareness – helping operators understand what is happening on the ground, in real time.
• Digital twins – simulating missions and systems before and while they run in the physical world.
• Robust communication – connectivity that holds up in contested and degraded environments.
• AI-assisted control of multiple drones – letting a single operator safely manage several aircraft at once.

Why it matters

Defence, policing and emergency response cannot depend on technology whose supply chain, data flows or update policies are controlled elsewhere. A Danish-produced platform, with AI developed, hosted and controlled locally, is digital sovereignty in its most concrete form.

For Ambolt AI, the project also demonstrates what we mean by physical AI: intelligence that has to work in the real world, under real constraints, where errors have real consequences. It builds on the same engineering discipline as our 5G-ROBOT safety system, and on the security foundation described on our Security & Compliance page.
